Farkle

How to play Farkle

Farkle (also called Zilch, Ten Thousand or Hot Dice) is a push-your-luck dice game for two or more players. You'll need six dice, a pencil, and the nerve to know when to stop.

A turn

  1. Roll all six dice.
  2. Set aside at least one scoring die. Every die you set aside must score.
  3. Either bank the points you've collected this turn, or roll the remaining dice to try for more.
  4. If a roll has no scoring dice at all, that's a Farkle: you lose every point from this turn and play passes on.
  5. If all six dice have scored, you have hot dice and may roll all six again.

Three pairs (or four of a kind plus a pair)1,500

Scoring combinations only count within a single roll. A 1 kept from one roll and two 1s from the next are three singles (300), not three of a kind.

Winning

When a player banks their way to 10,000 or more, everyone else gets one final turn. The highest score wins.

Questions

What scores in Farkle?

A single 1 is 100 points and a single 5 is 50. Three of a kind is 100 times the number (three 1s are 1,000). Four, five and six of a kind, straights, three pairs and two triplets score more; see the chart below.

What is hot dice in Farkle?

If all six dice score, you have hot dice: pick them all up and roll all six again, keeping the points you've built up this turn.

Do you need 500 points to get on the board?

It's a popular house rule but not universal. You can choose either option in the settings above the game.

How do you win Farkle?

The first player to reach 10,000 points triggers the final round. Every other player gets one more turn to beat that score, and the highest total wins.
